9th Circuit lifts injunction in electronic bingo case

Charities in California are weighing their options after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday lifted an injunction that could lead to the removal of electronic gaming machines from their facilities.

The charities say the use of electronic gaming machine helps patrons with disabilities. A federal judge agreed and issued an injunction that barred the state from enforcing a law against the machines at non-tribal facilities.

On appeal, the 9th Circuit disagreed and said the injury to the state outweighed the harm to the charities and their customers. The court said the charities have 21 days before the state can enforce the ban on the machines.
