Alaska Native backed casino in Las Vegas to shutter

Casino Monte Lago, a Las Vegas, Nevada, resort that was originally owned by an Alaska Native regional corporation, will close its doors on March 14.

Cook Inlet Region Inc opened the facility in 2003 but it quickly began to lose money. CIRI sold its ownership in 2007.

CIRI also owned a stake in the nearby Ritz-Carlton Lake Las Vegas but sold its interest in late 2006. The property wasn't performing as expected either.

WIth the Ritz-Carlton set to close in May, Casino Monte Lago called it quits. Over 500 people are losing their jobs at both facilities.
