Editorial: Mashantucket Tribe cuts back employee shuttle

"Almost daily, the public witnesses reminders of how this Great Recession has irrevocably changed their lives. People used to say, "When the economy improves," ending the sentence saying what they planned to buy, invest in or splurge on.

Those days are gone. In the third year of this financial hardship most individuals and businesses have cut back and regularly re-examine expenses and adjust.

That new reality is why Foxwoods Resort Casino is downsizing its employee shuttle bus services.

Starting in May, the casino will discontinue all service from its Groton lot in the Poquonnock Bridge neighborhood and eliminate all but weekend service from Route 2 commuter lots adjacent to Interstate 95 in North Stonington and west of Route 78 in Stonington. It will continue its Norwich shuttle operation.

The service eliminations are unfortunate and a hardship for some employees, but understandable."
