Poll backs Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino

A poll commissioned by the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona shows support for a controversial off-reservation casino.

The tribe said 68 percent of respondents support the project. Only 24 percent said they opposed it.

“The result of this poll validates our efforts to move forward with the West Valley resort, a project that will create 6,000 construction jobs and more than 3,000 permanent jobs once completed,” Tohono Chairman Ned Norris Jr. said, The Phoenix Business Journal reported.

The tribe plans to build the $500 million West Valley Resort on land it acquired in connection with a land claim settlement.
