California Sen. Roderick Wright (D) plans to introduce a bill to legalize Internet poker within the next two weeks, Gambling Compliance reports.

Wright said he expects tribes to challenge his bill. The tribal-state compact currently guarantees exclusivity for Class III games -- including poker -- with tribes.

"The compacts give them the right to challenge what has been done but I’ve asked six lawyers and they all have different answers," Wright told Gambling Compliance.

Former President George W. Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act into law in 2006. The law bans Internet gambling but includes exceptions for wagering that takes place under state law or through tribal-state compacts.

Congress is currently considering a bill to amend the law and regulate the Internet gaming industry
