The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut was hit hard by the national recession but one option was off the table. The tribe said there would be no layoffs at Mohegan Sun.

"If you lay people off, everyone thinks the next day it will be their turn," Mohegan Sun CEO Mitchell Etess said at the East Coast Gaming Congress, The Norwich Bulletin reported.

But the tribe made cuts in other areas. Salaries were frozen, 401(k) contributions were cut back, the marketing budget was downsized and employee perks were reduced or eliminated.

Etess remains optimistic about the future of the economy. He hopes the casino will start to see revenue increases as early as this summer.
