After waiting more than six years, the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California is about to get an answer on its proposed casino.

The tribe wants to build a $350 million casino with a 200-room hotel, a pool, a spa, 72,000 square-feet of gaming space, 11,000 square-feet of bingo space, three restaurants, a food court and three bars, and retail and banquet space. There will also be a 4,500 parking-space garage.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs released a final environmental impact statement on the project last month. Comments are being accepted until September 7, and after that, a final decision will be made.

"Further steps with the state and federal government will be necessary including approval of the compact the tribe worked out with the governor," Chair Elaine Bethel-Fink told The Sierra Sun.
