Non-Indian bars and restaurants want to add video slot machines to their establishments in a move they say will help the state's budget crunch.

A group called Profit Minnesota says video slots at 3,200 bars and restaurants can generate $1.1 billion a year for the state. But the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association says the figures are unrealistic because many establishments are in rural areas.

"Their numbers are squishy," MIGA executive director John McCarthy told The Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Tribes say an expansion of non-Indian gaming will violate their Class III gaming compacts.
