Openings and Closings
Navajo Nation 'excited' with numbers from new gaming facility

The Navajo Nation opened its second gaming facility last week and is already seeing a strong response from the community.

Traffic has been backed up on the road leading to the Flowing Water Navajo Casino in Hogback, New Mexico. "The numbers are great. We're very excited with the numbers," marketing director Rhonda Ray told The Farmington Daily Times.

The facility features 120 Class II machines. All 62 jobs are held by Navajos and members of other tribes.

"This is a dream for this little community," outgoing Navajo Nation Council Delegate Ervin Keeswood told the paper. "We want to build a foundation here and eventually create opportunities for small businesses."

The tribe plans to open four more casinos, including another under construction in New Mexico. The tribe also just secured land for a casino near Flagstaff, Arizona
