Wyandotte Nation adds to land for off-reservation casino in Kansas

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma purchased more land for its proposed off-reservation casino in Kansas.

The tribe now owns about 17 acres in Park City, near Wichita. Most of the land was purchased with funds that were authorized by an act of Congress.

The tribe already operates a casino in Kansas on land that was purchased with the same funds. The tribe won a series of court rulings that affirmed its right to engage in gaming at the site.

The Park City land-into-trust application is being reviewed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Billy Friend, the tribe's second chief, expected a decision "four to six weeks."
