Suquamish Tribe wins BIA support for land-into-trust application

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved a land-into-trust application for the Suquamish Tribe of Washington.

The seven acres is part of the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort. The land, however, won't be used for gaming activities, and the casino portion of the facility is already in trust.

“We’re really happy about that,” Chairman Leonard Forsman told The Kitsap Sun. “It’s righting a wrong, little by little.”

The tribe bought the seven acres about six years ago, the paper said. The land is within the original boundaries of the Port Madison Reservation.
