BIA likely to reject Stockbridge-Munsee off-reservation casino

It looks like the Obama administration will reject an off-reservation casino for the Stockbridge Munsee Band of Mohican Indians of Wisconsin.

The tribe submitted a Class III gaming compact to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. An answer is due by February 19 and it looks like it will be a big No.

"The Department of the Interior has a very dim view of the untested legal underpinnings of the casino and land settlement," an unnamed official told the Associated Press.

The tribe wants to open a casino in the Catskills, a region near New York City.
