The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians in Michigan says the addition of a hotel to its casino will help the tribe stay competitive and draw more patrons. FireKeepers Casino opened in August 2009. Revenues have been greater than expected, based on the tribe's payments to the state and local governments, and a hotel will help meet demand, Chairman Homer Mandoka said. “We received a lot of comments wanting us to take this step," Mandoka said at a press conference, The Kalamazoo Gazette. "We did a lot of market analysis and based on that. That supports the resort-style hotel.” Two other tribal casinos in the area offer hotels.
