Pala Band still willing to share revenues under a new casino deal

The Pala Band of Mission Indians wants to renegotiate its Class III gaming compact but is still willing to share revenues with the state of California, Chairman Robert Smith said.

The tribe signed a compact in 2004 that requires revenue sharing. The tribe pays about $18 million a year, Smith told The North County Times.

But now that the Rincon Band of Luiseno Indians won a lawsuit that questioned the basis for revenue sharing, the Pala Band wants to reopen its deal. "I think the revenue we pay to the state needs to be re-evaluated," Smith told the paper.

Smith said the tribe wants its gaming revenues to go to the local community, rather than the state's general fund
