Witness list for House hearing on Tohono O'odham casino bill

The House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs holds a hearing tomorrow on H.R.2938, a bill that stops the Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona from building an off-reservation casino.

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Arizona) introduced the bill on September 15. It modifies the Gila Bend Indian Reservation Lands Replacement Act of 1986 by barring gaming on newly acquired land.

Otherwise, the tribe would be entitled to open a casino on 135 acres near Glendale. The project is controversial and has generated opposition among politicians and some tribes in Arizona.

The hearing takes place at 2pm in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building. The witness list follows:
Panel I
The Honorable Trent Franks, R-AZ

Panel II
Paula Hart
Director of the Office of Indian Gaming

Panel III
The Honorable Diane Enos
President, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community

The Honorable Arlen P. Quetawki, Sr.
Governor, Pueblo of Zuni

The Honorable Ned Norris, Jr.
Chairman, Tohono O'odham Nation

Eric J. Bistrow
Chief Deputy, Office of the Arizona Attorney General

The Honorable Robert "Bob" Barrett
Mayor, City of Peoria, Arizona
