Tribes in California preparing for legal Internet poker games

Tribes in California are promoting three Internet poker sites in anticipation of legal Internet gambling.

The Cabazon Band of Mission Indians was the first to the punch in June 2010, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported. The Barona Band of Mission Indians joined the game a few weeks ago and the California Online Poker Association -- a coalition that includes some of the largest gaming tribes -- just launched their own site, CalShark.Com.

“The train is coming — and (it's) not far down the track," William Thompson, a professor emeritus at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, told the paper.

The state says the sites are legal as long as they remain free to play.
