Eastern Cherokees mark first phase of $650M casino plan

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina is spending $650 million to expand its casino.

The tribe recently completed the first phase of the project. The Harrah's Cherokee Casino now has more hotel rooms and a 3,035-seat event center.

When the project is finished by the end of 2012, there will also be more gaming space, more gaming machines and an 8,000-square-foot spa. The size of the casino floor will be doubled.
