White Earth Band to go after assets of former gaming 'partner'

The White Earth Band of Ojibwe Indians will try to have a tribal court decision recognized in Florida and Pennsylvania in order to collect nearly $20 million from a former gaming partner.

The tribe wants to pursue the assets of Angelo Medure, attorney Zenas Baer said. So the tribal court decision will have to be recognized in state courts, according to the attorney.

Medure's company, Gaming World International, was supposed to manage the tribe's casinos but was ousted in the mid-1990s. A tribal court judge found that Medure wrongfully received $10 million in gaming revenues.

With interest, the amount has grown to $18,562,767.
