Kickapoo Tribe in Texas spending big with $90M casino expansion

The Kickapoo Tribe of Texas is undertaking a $90 million expansion of its Class II gaming facility.

The tribe is expanding the gaming floor and adding a 250-room hotel to the Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass. The project is expected to be complete in mid-2013.

“The tribe is in extremely good health economically. We're doing a $90 million improvement project, of which we'll borrow about $50 million, with the rest coming from the tribe,” administrator Don Spaulding told The San Antonio Express-News.

Chairman Juan Garza Jr. has led the tribe through its new found success. He was elected nine years ago after tribal members ousted their leaders, some of whom were involved in a corruption scheme that led to federal charges.
