Progress 2011: Ruth Lally on graveyard shift at WinnaVegas
"Name: Ruth Lally Occupation: Graveshift slot machine technician, WinnaVegas Casino, Sloan, Iowa Shift hours: Midnight to 6 a.m. What's the best thing about working at night? "I can get to the machines to clean them and work on them, whatever I have to do. And when we have customers, you've got your regulars and you get to know them pretty good. I like to work nights because in the daytime I have doctors' and dental appointments. I don't have to take time off work. And I get all my stuff done in the morning. I just like working graveyard. I'd never worked it before until I started working here 10 years ago." The worst? "I miss out on a lot of stuff 'cause I sleep at night. So there's a lot of places I don't get to go 'cause I'll be sleeping. Like some concerts."" Get the Story:
