Big Valley Rancheria considers opening small gaming facility

The Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians in California might open a small casino at a property that just went into escrow.

The tribe's offer on the Ferndale Resort and Marina was recently accepted. If approved, the tribe will operate it as a resort and, possibly, as a small casino with 80 slot machines and a few table games.

"Basically, we're looking at economic development and diversification," Mickey Burke, the tribe's administrator and director of economic development, told The Lake County Record-Bee. "It's a beautiful resort."

The gaming plan depends on placing the land in trust. The tribe operates the Konocti Vista Casino
