Travel: Umatilla Tribes almost done with $45M casino upgrade

"The expanded Wildhorse Resort & Casino outside Pendleton is nearing full operation, after a soft opening in September and formal dedication of the Tower Hotel last week. The last piece of the puzzle comes in November with the opening of a five-screen cineplex and youth entertainment center with arcade.

The $45 million upgrade, under the ownership of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, adds 24,000 square feet of space and 400 machines to the gaming operation, triples the number of hotel rooms to 302, adds a fitness center and pool room and brings new luxury lodging to the east side of Oregon.

The 10-story, 170-foot-tall hotel becomes the tallest building in eastern Oregon, except for perhaps a grain elevator or two. It offers 32 suites with oversize guest rooms that feature in-room wet bars, iPod docks and views of the Blue Mountains. "
