"Another election was decided last week that also has an impact on Port Huron's future. Bay Mills Tribal Council Chairman Jeff Parker lost his re-election bid to newcomer Kurt Perron.
Parker held the leadership position almost continually for two decades. On Monday, Perron took over the tribe's chairman's seat.
Parker spent the past 10 years trying to open a $300 million Bay Mills casino development in downtown Port Huron. Behind the scenes, Parker had become a real player for Port Huron, including structuring the tribe's purchase of the post office property.
Parker is a natural leader, a really great guy, who was quickly becoming part of our community."
