Opinion: White Earth off-reservation casino a good idea

"Some state legislators have put the brakes on funding for a new Vikings stadium. There is reluctance for a variety of reasons, ranging from giving money to a wealthy team owner to making a decision without input from the public via a statewide referendum.

There appears to be a simple solution - one that wouldn't mean reaching into state coffers or raising taxes. Somebody needs to put a call into the White Earth Ojibwe tribe members who want to give $400 million toward a new stadium in exchange for the right to build a casino in the Twin Cities. The White Earth tribe also offered to split casino revenue with the state. And to put money toward increasing the purses at Canterbury Park and Running Aces."
