The Winnebago Tribe of
Nebraska has agreed to buy a racetrack property in Iowa.
The sale of the Atokad Downs will become final on Friday if a second party fails to match the tribe's bid. Regardless of who purchases the site, state-authorized races and simulcast betting will end September 1, The Sioux City Journal reported.
The tribe hasn't disclosed plans for the property. The tribe operates the
WinnaVegas Casino in Iowa, where Class III gaming is legal.
Ho-Chunk Inc., the tribe's economic development corporation, bid for the site. HCI also owns Indianz.Com and AllNative.Com.
