It looks like the Santa Ysabel Band of Mission Indians in California won't be able to protect its casino under federal bankruptcy law.

The Santa Ysabel Casino filed for bankruptcy, citing more than $50 million in debts. A major creditor -- the Yavapai-Apache Nation of Arizona -- opposed the request, and so did the U.S. Trustee and San Diego County.

After a hearing on Tuesday, Judge Peter W. Bowie of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of California dismissed the petition, according to a minute order filed that day. A written decision was not yet available as of this morning.
