Sault Ste. Marie Tribe to hold referendum on gaming project

Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians will vote on an off-reservation gaming project in Lansing, Michigan.

The tribe announced the $245 million casino last month. But critics, including former chairman Aaron Payment pushed for a referendum to determine what to do with revenues from the project.

The vote will take place within 60 days. Chairman Joe Eitrem is worried that tribal members will outright reject the casino.
