Saginaw Chippewa Tribe opposed to more non-Indian gaming

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe is criticizing plans for as many as 27 new casinos in Michigan.

The state is already home to more than 20 tribal and commercial gaming facilities. At least one tribe is proposing an off-reservation casino while a group called the Committee for More Michigan Jobs has outlined plans for eight non-Indian casinos.

"If they can get enough signatures, they can circumvent and take away and literally put a casino on every corner," Saginaw Chippewa spokesperson Frank Cloutier told MLive. "That is not going to help the state's economy. It's very difficult to expand gaming. It's going to take away revenue from one area and put it to another. That's not how we build our economy."

The group wants to put the eight casino plan on the November ballot. The plan requires an amendment to the state constitution.
