"How many times does Michigan want to roll the dice? If various groups have their way, the answer may be "all the time."
Two different casino proposals would blanket the state with slots and table games. The most recent got approval Tuesday to begin circulating petitions and is called Citizens for More Michigan Jobs.
Note that no group is yet brave enough to call itself the Let's Gamble More Coalition or even -- to adopt the industry's language -- Michiganders for the Advancement of Gaming. Any proposal that hopes to earn voters' trust should at least start with a name that clearly states its intentions.
The promise of permanent jobs remains theoretical, of course, because surely some other jobs would disappear if casinos reap more of Michiganders' discretionary spending."
