Chickasaw Nation drops name of gaming facility for ballpark

The Chickasaw Nation still owns the naming rights to a baseball stadium in Oklahoma City but the facility won't be known as the "Newcastle Casino Field."

The stadium will now be called the "Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark." The tribe said it was responding to criticism about the overt link to gaming in the original name.

“We have a great admiration for the 50-year history of professional baseball in Oklahoma and the major role the ballpark has played in Oklahoma City's amazing renaissance,” Gov. Bill Anoatubby said in a statement, The Oklahoman reported. “Out of consideration for the expressed concerns of Oklahoma City citizens, we have decided to revisit the name.”

The Newcastle Casino is about 20 miles from the ballpark.
