Opinion: Waiting for answers on Graton Rancheria casino

"It's the biggest private development ever proposed for the North Bay and probably the most controversial, but most of our leaders don't want to talk about it.

That's the impression I was left with after reading Derek Moore's story Wednesday about the political maneuvering surrounding plans for a $433 million Indian casino and resort complex slated to be built just off Highway 101 outside of Rohnert Park.

Pretty much everyone I know has something to say about this project, even those who usually don't follow local news and politics. They either like the idea or hate it, but few are ambivalent about it. This is a hot-button issue.

But when Moore sought the opinion of several local members of the Legislature – people who actually have a say in whether this thing moves forward – the majority demurred."
