Soboba Band facing opposition over casino land-into-trust bid

The Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians of California is still waiting for the Bureau of Indian Affairs to make a decision on its casino land-into-trust application.

The BIA published a draft environmental impact statement in July 2009 and wrapped up public meetings over a year ago. Meanwhile, opposition from the city of San Jacinto, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) and a local group has piled up.

The tribe wants 535 acres placed in trust. The existing Soboba Casino will be moved to the new site.
