Eastern Cherokee casino compact moves step closer to approval
Friday, June 1, 2012
A Class III gaming compact for the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians
cleared an initial vote in the North Carolina House on Thursday.
The compact authorizes live card dealers to the
Harrah’s Cherokee Casino and Resort
in exchange for a share of the revenues. The deal lasts 30 years and is expected to generate $90 million for the state.
The Senate already approved the compact. Once it gets final approval in the state, it can be sent to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs
for review.
