California Internet poker measure withdrawn before 1st hearing

A bill to legalize Internet poker in California was pulled before it even got a hearing on Tuesday.

Sen. Rod Wright (D) withdrew SB 1463 right before the Senate Governmental Organization Committee was due to consider it. Some tribal leaders had traveled far distances to testify, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.

Tribes are divided on the issue. Some support Internet gaming while others say it will violate their Class III gaming compacts.
