After seven years, the Ione Band of Miwok Indians
of California finally won approval of its land-into-trust application but it will be a few more years before a casino arrives.
Chairwoman Yvonne Miller said the next step for the tribe is to negotiate a Class III gaming compact. A deal would presumably address local impacts of the casino.
"I want to work very hard to make sure things work out. I want to make sure we take care of our neighbors," Miller told The Sacramento Bee in reference to controversy in Amador County over the casino.
The tribe plans to build the casino on a 228-acre site.
