Little River Band sees local support for an off-reservation casino

Local officials are asking Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) to support an off-reservation casino for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.

The tribe owns 233 acres in Fruitport Township that it wants to use for a casino. The site is about 80 miles from the reservation.

Snyder has said he opposes the project but local officials, in a public meeting with his staff, said the casino will generate jobs revenue for the community.
