Towns want meeting before Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe compact

Local communities want to meet Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) before he finalizes a Class III gaming compact with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Patrick expects to reach a deal with the tribe by July 31. But so far he hasn't agreed to meet with leaders from towns near to the proposed casino.

"I am disappointed that the governor's office is not reaching out to the surrounding communities before finalizing the compact. I'm hopeful that will happen, but time is ticking on," Rep. Keiko Orrall (R) told The Cape Cod Times.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission, however, agreed to meet with surrounding communities at Orrall's request. The meeting takes place next Thursday, July 12.
