California tribes cite $7.5B economic impact from their casinos

The California Nations Indian Gaming Association is announcing the results of an economic impact study today.

Tribes with casinos contribute $7.5 billion to the state's economy every year, according to the study. Indian gaming also supports more than 52,000 jobs.

“Is it a primary driver of the state’s economy? It is not,” Christopher Thornberg of Beacon Economics, which conducted the study, told The Riverside Press-Enterprise. “But on a smaller scale, it’s very significant for a number of reasons.”

The study is being released at a press conference in Sacramento.
