Winnebago Tribe benefits from zoning change allowing a casino

The Winnebago Tribe would be able to open a commercial casino under zoning change approved by the city council in Sioux City, Iowa.

Ho-Chunk Inc., the tribe's economic development corporation, wants to develop a land-based casino in the city. It would have to be located somewhere within a 462-acre "Casino Overlay District" in downtown Sioux City.

The tribe plans to submit an application for the casino license by November 1. The facility would be regulated by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
