The city of Glendale, Arizona, has spent $3.2 million losing a lawsuit against the
Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino.
And the city plans to spend even more money. The council voted to continue the litigation despite losing before the
9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
"I want this settled for once and for all, and who better than the highest court in the land to tell me that A, I either have to sit (at) the negotiating table with the Tohono O'odham or B, the Tohono O'odham can go find another place to put a casino outside of a city," city council member Joyce Clark said at a public meeting, The Arizona Republic reported.
The state, also a party to the litigation, plans to ask the 9th Circuit to rehear the case.
The
Gila River Indian Community, another plaintiffs, plans to keep fighting too.
After the 9th Circuit, the case could go to the
U.S. Supreme Court.
