Pokagon Band playing down plans for casino on site in Indiana

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians says its plans for Indiana are not only about gaming.

The tribe wants to provide a home for 600 members who live in South Bend, Indiana. A land-into-trust application includes plans for housing and a community center, in addition to a casino.

"The South Bend area has always been part of our homeland," Jason Wesaw, the tribe's government manager, told The South Bend Tribune.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is preparing an environmental impact statement for the project.
