Shakopee Tribe starts serving alcohol at casino for the first time

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota has started serving liquor at its casino.

The Mystic Steakhouse at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel began selling beer, wine and liquor yesterday. Other venues in the facility will soon offer liquor although it won't be available on the gamin floor or through room service at the hotel.

"Adding alcohol service to the Mystic Lake experience has been the most frequent request made by our guests for many years," Edward Stevenson, the president and chief executive officer of the SMSC Gaming Enterprise, told KARE-TV. "We've studied the idea very carefully as we've evolved toward a casino resort atmosphere over the past several years."

The tribe added 70 jobs by adding liquor to the casino.
