Sault Tribe reaches agreements for potential gaming location
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of
Chippewa Indians has reached two agreements for a potential casino in Huron, Michigan.
The tribe and the town signed an intergovermental agreement to recognize seven acres as Indian land. The tribe will reimburse the town for any property taxes and share a portion of gaming revenues from a potential casino with the community.
The second agreement addresses law enforcement at the potential casino.
Tribal and town officers will be cross-deputized.
Separately, the tribe is pursing a casino in Lansing.
