North Fork Rancheria clears a hurdle for off-reservation casino

The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians is on track to build an off-reservation casino in California.

After starting work on the project in 2003, the tribe won Bureau of Indian Affairs approval of its land-into-trust application last month. "This decision brings our tribe one step closer to realizing our generations-long dream of helping our people and our community," Chairwoman Elaine Bethel-Fink said in a statement.

The tribe plans to build a $200 million casino on the 305-acre site.
