Muscogee Nation won't take over controversial casino project

The Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma won't be taking over a controversial casino project.

Tribal leaders voted 7-2 against an agreement to share a casino with the Kialegee Tribal Town. The deal promised the Creeks 70 percent of the revenue -- estimated to be between $15 million and $25 million a year.

"Well, it's economic development. As you know, all of you sitting around this table have said you support economic development. So I'll leave it at that," Chief George Tiger told members of a tribal council committee that rejected the deal, KJRH-TV reported.

A federal judge blocked the casino, saying that the Kialegee Tribal Town lacked jurisdiction over an Indian allotment. The case is now before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
