Cedric Cromwell: Progress on Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe casino

"As we reflect on 2012 and look forward to 2013, I want to take time to thank the city of Taunton on behalf of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Since we announced our intentions to develop a destination resort casino in Taunton in early 2012, we have been thrilled by the enthusiasm, hospitality, professionalism and civic pride displayed by the residents and officials in Taunton.

We thank Mayor Hoye and his administration for their open mind, the seriousness with which they approached this economic development opportunity, their advocacy for the best interests of their constituents, and their good faith in negotiating an intergovernmental agreement that will benefit the city of Taunton and its residents for generations.

We thank the City Council for their careful consideration of the intergovernmental agreement and the project as a whole, for their participation in public meetings, and for their ultimate support of the destination resort casino and the intergovernmental agreement. We also thank the city’s legislative delegation for their leadership in Taunton as well as the State House."
