Non-Indian gaming firms don't seem excited about New York

Non-Indian gaming firms say they aren't that excited about an expansion of gaming in New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) wants voters to legalize three casinos in upstate New York. Non-Indian firms say they are more interested in locations closer to New York City.

"Nobody wants to be in the Catskills," an unidentified "Las Vegas executive" told The Wall Street Journal. "I think what happened is the governor thought that this plan is what he could get through."

The article also cites executives from Penn National Gaming, MGM Resorts International MGM, Caesars Entertainment Corp. and Las Vegas Sands who said they probably won't campaign for the expansion because the political process is too uncertain.

Penn and MGM happen to be bidding for a casino in western Massachusetts, not too far from the New York border.
