Study highlights economic impact of Indian gaming in Arizona

Tribal casino employment contributed nearly $1 billion to the economy in 2011, according to a study commissioned by the Arizona Indian Gaming Association.

Tribal casinos employed more than 15,000 people. When indirect jobs are added, the number exceeds 22,000, according to the study.

"Indian gaming contributes directly to rural economic development in Arizona," said AIGA executive director Valerie Spicer. "It produces jobs, attracts tourism and brings investment to areas that have historically had depressed economies."

Tribal casinos generated $1.8 billion in revenue in 2012, the report said.
