Quapaw Tribe in dispute over land for failed casino in Kansas

The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma and Cherokee County, Kansas, are in a dispute over land that's owned by a non-Indian gaming company.

The tribe says it made a down payment to Penn National Gaming for the 200-acre site. But the county claims it reached a settlement to acquire the land.

Penn National was going to use the land for a commercial casino in the county but withdrew its bid. The tribe's casino is located in the county.
