Key Florida lawmaker doesn't expect a gaming bill until 2014

Florida State Sen. Garrett Richter (R), the chairman of the Senate Gaming Committee, doesn't expect a comprehensive gaming bill until 2014.

The first step is a study of the gaming industry. That's expected to be completed later this year.

Richter also plans to hold hearings to take input from the Seminole Tribe, the gaming industry and other stakeholders. The tribe's Class III gaming compact expires in 2015.

“If there are any bills that get referred here we’ll look at those bills, but from where I stand on it, I want to do something deliberative and proper,” Richter told Sunshine State News.
